Writing
At Leverton Church of England Academy, we use "The Write Stuff" approach to teach writing, which emphasizes creativity and the development of writing skills through a structured framework. This method encourages students to break down writing into manageable chunks, known as 'Sentence Stacking.' Each 'stack' focuses on a specific sentence structure, helping students to build their writing skills progressively. This approach not only enhances their ability to construct sentences but also nurtures their creativity by allowing them to experiment with vocabulary and literary techniques. By providing a clear structure, "The Write Stuff" enables students to understand the mechanics of writing while also fostering a love for storytelling.
In addition to "The Write Stuff," we incorporate "Talk for Writing," which is an engaging way to help children internalize the language structures needed for writing. This approach involves using storytelling and role-play to help students internalize and understand the language patterns found in different types of writing. Through oral rehearsal and imitation of well-constructed texts, children develop a strong foundation for their writing. This method also builds confidence, as students become familiar with the structure and language of storytelling, allowing them to produce their own creative pieces. Together, these approaches provide a comprehensive and dynamic writing curriculum that caters to the diverse needs of our students, ensuring they become confident and skilled writers.
