Leverton

Church of England Academy

Reading

In our Academy we teach Read, Write Inc throughout Reception and KS1. Once children have completed this programme, they will continue their reading journey using Reciprocal Reading - A structured whole class reading approach. Throughout this approach the children work together to make predictions, clarify vocabulary, ask questions about the text type and summarise to deepen their understanding and their independent comprehension skills. This is taught throughout Key Stage 2.

READING FOR PLEASURE

Reading for pleasure is highly valued within our school. We understand the importance of promoting a love of Reading for our children ensuring they have many opportunities to have a range of text types read to them for pure enjoyment. At Leverton we have dedicated DEAR time - Drop Everything And Read - to take place in the afternoon for 10 minutes. These texts are chosen to support a developing reader to ensure they are exposed to a range of language, vocabulary and plots which will also support them navigate reading with confidence.

A huge shout out to our first addition to our Oak Class Reading Journal! Incredible care and dedication to produce this outstanding book review of 'The Day I Fell Into A Fairy tale'.
