The Arts

At Leverton Church of England Academy, our Art curriculum is structured around an Art and Design Wheel, which emphasizes the study of great artists and the cultivation of inspiration and creativity. Students explore various artistic skills such as drawing, sketching, sculpting, collage, and printing. By learning about renowned artists and their techniques, children are inspired to experiment with their own creativity. This approach encourages them to develop their artistic abilities progressively, gaining confidence in their use of different media and methods. The wheel ensures that students receive a well-rounded art education, fostering an appreciation for the arts and enhancing their creative expression.

In Design and Technology, our curriculum uses a similar wheel approach, allowing children to engage in a dynamic process of design, creation, and evaluation. Students are encouraged to be innovative as they work through stages of planning, making, breaking, and rethinking their projects. This iterative process helps them develop practical skills in constructing frame and shell structures, working with pneumatics, and understanding the mechanics of levers and pulleys. Additionally, they explore the world of cookery, learning essential skills in food preparation and nutrition. By allowing children to engage in hands-on learning and critical thinking, our Design and Technology Wheel helps them build resilience and problem-solving abilities, preparing them for a variety of future challenges.

At Leverton Church of England Academy, our Music curriculum is developed through four key lenses: singing, listening and appraising, musical games, and composing and performing. Using the support of the MMC from Charanga, we provide a comprehensive musical education that fosters students' confidence and creativity. Through these lenses, children learn to appreciate a wide range of musical genres, develop their vocal and instrumental skills, and gain an understanding of musical composition. Beyond classroom lessons, we offer enriching musical experiences such as participation in Young Voices for KS2, which provides an incredible opportunity to perform in a large choir setting. Our students also showcase their talents during our annual Nativity play for EYFS and KS1, and in the end-of-year concert or production featuring our KS2 children. These events celebrate the musical achievements of our students and allow them to experience the joy and excitement of performing for an audience.
