Leverton

Church of England Academy

Maths

At Leverton Church of England Academy, we use the White Rose Maths approach to provide a comprehensive and engaging mathematics education. This program offers a clear, structured curriculum that helps students develop a deep understanding of mathematical concepts. We ensure that children are exposed to a variety of maths problems presented in different ways, fostering flexible thinking and problem-solving skills. The CPA (Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract) model is central to our teaching, where students first use physical objects (concrete) to understand mathematical ideas, then move on to visual representations (pictorial), and finally, abstract symbols. This progression helps solidify their understanding and enables them to apply their knowledge confidently. Additionally, we emphasize the importance of mental arithmetic starters and regular practice of times tables to build quick, accurate calculation skills. These foundational elements support students in becoming proficient mathematicians who can tackle complex problems with ease.

We are having a ROCKSTARS and ROBOTS day! Children are invited to dress up as either a Rockstar or a Robot on Tuesday 24th September! Let's celebrate the importance of mental arithmetic and times tables!
